A Thermoplastic Elastomeric Nanofibrous Membrane as CFRP Modifier to Boost Both Delamination and Damping Performance

In the present work, thermoplastic elastomeric nanofibers made up of a homogenous blend nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) and Ppolycaprolactone (CL), with 80% wt rubbery component, are used to modify carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminate aim improving its delamination damping behavior at same time. Since nanofibrous membrane is not chemically cross-linked, fibrous morphology lost during composite curing owing melting. Nonetheless, nanomodified CFRP displays an impressive ability improve resistance in mode I also enhanced capacity low temperature. The use membranes allows for modification specifically selected areas, thus maximizing toughening where most required, without necessarily affecting whole bulk resin. Both PCL NBR components contribute final performance; however, very high amount leads difficult handle whose performance superior 60% that instead more stable easier deal with. Overall, proposed results nonetheless promising, taking into account improved obtained significantly sacrificing weight overall dimension composite.
